Michigan basketball continues the Dusty May era on Friday night in an exhibition matchup against Toledo, a rematch of 2023’s NIT Tournament game between the two programs.
The Wolverines are coming off of program legend Juwan Howard’s time as head coach, which did have some highs but ultimately ended poorly, with the program going 8-24 in Howard’s final season in charge.
May was hired away from FAU after a hugely successful stint, one in which he led the Owls to a 126-69 record and to the Final Four in 2023.
Expectations will be high but if anyone can meet them, it will be May, who reached huge heights with far fewer resources at FAU than he will have with the Wolverines.

May will bring in a new-look squad in Year 1, including transfers Danny Wolf (from Yale), Tre Donaldson (Auburn), Roddy Gayle Jr. (Ohio State), Sam Walters (Alabama) and Vladislav Goldin, who came over from the Owls. Goldin will be a big piece for Michigan this season after putting up nearly 16 points and two blocks per game for FAU last year.
Toledo, meanwhile, went 20-12 last season but ultimately missed out on postseason play after falling to Kent State in the MAC Tournament.
