Liverpool winger Ben Doak scored his first-ever club goal for Middlesbrough on Saturday afternoon.

The Scotsman was handed his first start for Michael Carrick's side against Stoke City.

Doak found himself up against fellow Liverpool loanee Lewis Koumas who's endeared himself to the Potters faithful.

The winger was on task to capitalise on Viktor Johansson's parry and tap into an empty net to break the deadlock at the Riverside Stadium.

The young winger’s loan move to the North East only came about late in the window but the Boro manager, who made over 450 appearances for Manchester United, was delighted with the deal.

“We were keen to get [Doak] on board, we know what type of player and the potential and strengths that he’s got. We feel that he’ll fit us really well” Carrick said, via Teesside Live.

Doak has had a month to remember as he also was handed his first appearences for Scotland as he was introduced as a second-half substitute against Poland and Portugal.

The Reds opted to send many of their most exciting youngsters out on loan this season in order to get them valuable first-team minutes to either provide the club with cash-in opportunities or players that will be ready to break into Arne Slot's plans.

Doak's Saturday afternoon opponent, Koumas, has enjoyed a very strong start to his Stoke City career netting twice in the opening weeks of the new campaign.

Owen Beck has also endeared himself to the Blackburn Rovers faithful having already declared the left-back spot as his own. The defender however currently sits out of his side's visit to Millwall today after being sent off in Rovers' clash with Preston last weekend.

One loanee that hasn't had success is Calum Scanlon, who has returned to Liverpool after fracturing his back. The defender has been ruled out for the next three months.
