Washington loses 2 starters to season-ending injuries

Washington had a rough weekend.

Not only did the Huskies get upset on the road at Arizona State and drop from No. 5 to No. 12 in the AP Poll, they also lost two starters to season-ending injuries.

UW coach Chris Petersen announced Monday that both left tackle Trey Adams and cornerback Jordan Miller will miss the rest of the season. Trey Adams, the team’s left tackle, went down with a torn ACL in his right knee while Miller suffered a grisly broken ankle on the play that sealed the upset for the Sun Devils.

Adams, a junior, is in his third season as a starter for the Huskies. He played in 10 games, starting nine, and cemented the his status as the team’s No. 1 left tackle as a true freshman in 2015. He followed that up by starting all 14 games during UW’s Pac-12 title-winning 2016 season. The 6-foot-8, 327-pound Adams was a first-team All-Pac-12 selection last fall and is considered an NFL prospect.

Per the Seattle Times, senior Andrew Kirkland came in for Adams following the injury. Kirkland, a fifth-year senior, has 12 career starts under his belt, playing both tackle positions and right guard.

Miller, a junior, played mainly on special teams the last two seasons before emerging as a starter this year. Through seven games, he totaled 23 tackles and two interceptions. He also had a forced fumble against ASU before going down with an injury on the improbable fourth-down connection between ASU QB Manny Wilkins and tight end Ceejhay French-Love. Miller was injured making the tackle at the end of the play.

Miller is the third Washington player to suffer a season-ending ankle injury, joining receiver Chico McClatcher and tight end David Ajamu.

Washington, now 6-1 on the year, has a bye this week before returning to the field Oct. 28 against UCLA.
