Andre Iguodala: We were winning games. We knew Steph was Steph. Mark Jackson had already told us, ‘Steph is Steph. Y’all are going to see in a minute—he’s going to be MVP.’ Mark Jackson had been saying this for two or three years already before anybody else was even thinking about it, which was crazy. He was like, ‘Steph’s our guy. Nobody on this team is getting in his way.’ How many times have you seen a coach tell the entire team, ‘Hey, man, ain’t nobody going to get in this dude’s way’? Yeah, yeah. That’s why I wanted to be a part of that team. -via YouTube / January 24, 2025
Andre Iguodala: I have to remind folks in suits sometimes: we are the shield; we're the brand. The NBA does an amazing job of monetizing the game. People say, "How can you pay athletes this much money?" So what do you want us to do—not pay them? Where's the money going to go if we don't give it to the athletes? It's either going to go to richer people or to the athletes. The NBA has done an amazing job of monetizing the shield, but the shield isn't what it is unless you have the talent behind it, which is the players. So, you sitting in your dark room—that's a real human experience that people don't understand. Sometimes, during negotiations, teams say, "Why are the players reacting like this?" It extends well beyond them. My time might be up, but I’ve put a lot into this shield. We’ve got some amazing things coming up that I’m really excited about. These things should be happening soon—ways we can continue to uplift and protect each other. -via YouTube / January 23, 2025
According to Iguodala, Kerr’s coaching philosophy is centered around a laid-back, positive environment. “Steve was more carefree, come in, listen to some music, great vibes. Steve was like, ‘I want you to come in happy,’” Iguodala explained. In contrast, the Miami Heat’s “Heat Culture,” as Iguodala described it, is far more demanding. “Heat culture is like nah, we gonna make this the hardest possible situation. The game’s going to be easy…” he said. -via TalkBasket / January 22, 2025
