Walz attends Minnesota-Michigan football game

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) added some pigskin to his schedule, making a stop at Saturday’s football game between the University of Minnesota and the University of Michigan.

Vice President Harris’s running mate was spotted attending the game in Ann Arbor, Mich., between the two Big Ten teams. The Harris-Walz campaign confirmed his attendance to The Hill earlier this week.

Photos posted to social media show the vice presidential hopeful standing under a tailgate tent with the campaign website displayed.

The 12th-ranked Wolverines are 9.5-point favorites, according to ESPN, over the visiting Golden Gophers, who are unranked. The teams will play for the Little Brown Jug, which is the second-oldest rivalry game trophy in college football.

Walz, 60, is a former high school football coach who helped lead his team to a state championship.

The vice presidential candidate isn’t the only White House hopeful who’s poised to catch some football this weekend. Former President Trump is expected to join the crowds at the University of Alabama’s marquee game against the University of Georgia on Saturday. Trump received an invitation from a “private citizen,” according to the University of Alabama.

That match-up, between the No. 2 and No. 4 teams in the country, has significant implications for the College Football Playoff. Between them, Georgia and Alabama have won three of the four most recent national championships.
