Walter Sabatini commends Dybala’s decision to stay at Roma, weighs in on Giallorossi’s transfers

Former Roma sporting director Walter Sabatini was asked to share his thoughts on the Giallorossi’s eventful summer.

In an interview with Tuttosport, Sabatini said, “Dybala’s decision to stay must be interpreted as an act of love; an act of love and great generosity in a huge city and an important club like Roma, which has an extraordinary fan base.”

“It is also an act of self-love. Dybala represents something in Argentina, he even wore the number 10 shirt: he will continue to represent something as long as he remains in an important league. Of course, the Saudi League is improving a lot, but it has slowed down investments a bit and the diaspora will slow down.”

“Dybala has done something very important for his human growth and it is a very difficult decision. Because it’s one thing to talk, it’s another to give up all that money.”

“Dybala makes the difference. Roma must be given credit for having adjusted the team in the last few days of the transfer window: Hummels, despite being 35 years old, has a charisma that shifts the balance.”

“Koné in my opinion is very strong: he wins duels in the middle of the pitch, he is always electric. Roma rebalanced the squad, even with Saelemaekers: he can be of great help.”

“And Soulé is the joy of football: it is clear that he must adapt his level to what is required of him by a different situation. Because Rome is Rome: we need to raise the bar. Having said that, Soulé is a fantastic footballer.”
