Below are the nominees for The Charlotte Observer high school athlete of the week.

This week’s nominees

Nolan Breen, Carmel Christian cross-country: The Cougars’ freshman ran a personal-best 19 minutes, 27.70 seconds to finish 11th at the Run 4 Life Invitational at the North Iredell High course Sept. 14.

Breen helped the Carmel Christian boys’ cross-country team to victory at the same event.

Brady Johnson, Covenant Day Soccer: The Lions’ junior scored two goals in a 3-1 win at Providence Day Sept. 10 and made the game-winner in a 1-0 victory at Marvin Ridge Sept. 12.

Covenant Day (7-1) also won 1-0 over Christ School in double overtime Sept. 14.

Johnson has seven goals and six assists for Covenant Day this season.

Matthew Kulyak, Ardrey Kell soccer: The Knights’ junior forward scored two goals and had two assists in a 6-0 win over T.C. Roberson Sept. 11.

Kulyak also had an assist in a 3-1 victory at Hough Sept. 9.

Kulyak has nine goals and three assists for Ardrey Kell (7-1-2) this season.

Danielle Lewis, Lake Norman Charter Volleyball: The Knights’ sophomore libero had 15 digs, 11 serves received and five assists in a 3-0 win over South Rowan Sept. 9.

Lewis followed that up with 30 digs, 22 serves received, three aces and one assist in a 3-1 victory over Carson Sept. 11.

Lewis has 155 digs, 150 serves received, 30 assists and 17 aces for a Lake Norman Charter team that is undefeated at 10-0.

Annie Miller, Metrolina Christian cross-country: The Warriors’ senior ran a personal and school-record 17:53 to win the Warrior XC Invitational in Pawleys Island, SC, Sept. 14.

Miller helped the Metrolina Christian girls’ cross-country team to a fifth-place finish at the same event.

Miller is a Furman University commit.

Bryant Moore, West Iredell cross-country: The Warriors’ sophomore ran a 16:55.80 to win the Printcrafters’ Invitational at McAnderson Park in Statesville Sept. 10.

Moore, who beat the field by nearly 11 seconds, also led the West Iredell boys’ cross country team to a ninth-place finish at the same meet.

Lucas Morton, Metrolina Christian soccer: The Warriors’ junior scored two goals and had two assists in a 5-4 double overtime loss to Gaston Christian Sept. 9.

The next day, Morton scored both goals in a 2-0 win at Monroe.

Morton finished off the week with an assist in a 4-1 loss at Concord Academy Sept. 12.

Morton has 10 goals and six assists for Metrolina Christian (4-8-1) this season.

Madison Park, Myers Park girls’ golf, Jr.: The Mustangs’ junior shot a 2-under-par 69 to tie for medalist honors at the Carmel High School Challenge at Carmel Country Club Sept. 9.

Park, who had six birdies in her round, helped the Myers Park girls’ golf team to a fifth-place finish at the same event.

Emersyn Reiter, Lake Norman volleyball: The Wildcats’ senior had 14 kills and 12 digs in a 3-2 loss to Cox Mill Sept. 10.

Reiter also had 18 kills and 20 digs in a win over South Iredell Sept. 12.

Reiter has 115 kills and 50 digs for Lake Norman (7-2) this season.

Kelsey Sciacca, Charlotte Latin girls’ golf: The Hawks’ junior shot a 2-under-par 69 to tie for medalist honors at the Carmel High School Challenge at Carmel Country Club Sept. 9.

Sciacca, who had four birdies in her round, also helped the Charlotte Latin girls’ golf team to a fourth-place finish at the same event.

Sciacca followed that up by shooting a 1-over-par 37 (on nine holes) to help Charlotte Latin beat Legion Collegiate by 43 shots at Rock Hill Country Club Sept. 11.

Diego Silva, Garinger Soccer: The Wildcats’ senior scored four goals and had one assist in a 7-0 win over Butler Sept. 10.

The next day, Silva had one goal in 2-0 victory over Cuthbertson.

Silva finished off the week with two more goals in a 5-0 win over East Mecklenburg Sept. 12.

Silva has 19 goals and three assists for Garinger (8-3-1) this season.

Austin Skeete, Providence Day cross-country: The Chargers’ star ran a personal-best 16:12.50 to finish third individually, while leading Providence Day to victory (by 79 points) at Pfeiffer University Invitational Sept. 14.

Skeete’s time was 16 seconds faster than his previous personal-best.

Gracie Song, Cuthbertson girls’ golf: The Cavaliers’ junior shot a 1-under-par 35 to tie for second individually, while leading the Cuthbertson girls’ golf team to a third-place finish in the Southern Carolinas’ conference match at Stonebridge Golf Club in Monroe Sept. 11.

Song is averaging a score of 35.5 per nine holes this season.

Ranon Suttle, Union Academy volleyball: The Cardinals’ senior outside hitter had 13 kills, six digs and three aces in a 3-0 win at Queens Grant Sept. 9.

Suttle also had eight kills in a 3-0 victory over Gray Stone Day Sept. 10.

Suttle finished off the week with 11 kills, six digs and two aces in a 3-0 sweep at South Stanly Sept. 12.

Suttle has 79 kills, 51 digs and 16 aces for Union Academy (8-4) this season.

Holland Wilkins, Charlotte Country Day field hockey: The Buccaneers’ sophomore scored the game-winning goal in a 1-0 win over Providence Day Sept. 12.

Wilkins also had a goal and an assist in a 6-3 victory over Charlotte Catholic Sept. 10.

Wilkins has six goals and seven assists for Charlotte Country Day (7-1) this season.

Wilkins was recently named to the U.S. Women’s Junior National team selection camp, according to Charlotte Country Day coach, Kayleigh Thies Ferlan.

Antonio Worthy, Hunter Huss cross-country: The Huskies’ junior ran a personal-best 18:39.02 to win the Gaston County Championship at Forestview Sept. 10.

Worthy, who was 1:12 faster than the runner-up, also led the Hunter Huss boys’ cross country team to a fifth-place finish at the same meet.
