Von Miller suffers 'freak' ankle injury reportedly feared to be season-ending

Denver Broncos pass rusher Von Miller suffered a significant lower leg injury on Tuesday that is feared to be season-ending, according to NFL Network and ESPN.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that one witness described it as a “freak” injury to his ankle suffered late in practice.

Miller underwent an MRI after practice to determine the severity of the injury. Mike Klis of 9News in Denver reports that Miller is expected to visit with orthopedic foot and ankle specialist Dr. Robert Anderson in Green Bay, Wisconsin and undergo surgery.

Big blow for Miller, Broncos

Miller, 31, has made eight Pro Bowls with the Broncos, including the past six. The three-time All-Pro and Super Bowl 50 MVP has recorded double-digit sacks in seven of his nine NFL seasons and is a critical piece of the Broncos’ defense.

This would be the second significant injury of Miller’s career after he suffered a season-ending ACL tear in 2013.

Miller and third-year pro Bradley Chubb combine to anchor one of the most imposing pass rushes in the NFL. Chubb 24, missed all but two games last season with an ACL tear. Now it sounds like the Broncos could face 2020 without their other bookend pass rusher.
