Virginia Tech announced Sunday morning that Trevon Hill was no longer part of the team hours after he had six tackles in the Hokies’ upset loss to Old Dominion.

“After consultation with our coaching staff and administration at Virginia Tech, Trevon Hill has been dismissed from the football team effective immediately for not upholding the high standards that we have for our student-athletes at Virginia Tech,” Coach Justin Fuente said in a statement. “I will always put the interests of Virginia Tech and our team first, no matter how difficult those decisions may be.”

Hill also had 1.5 sacks as Old Dominion won 49-35 in the college football upset of the season. Virginia Tech gave up 632 yards to the previously winless Monarchs.

That fact was not lost on Hill, who did some Twitter avatar and background changing after his dismissal was announced. He turned his background picture into the final score of the game and his profile picture into a local newspaper’s tweet about the defeat.

Hill was sixth on the team in tackles in 2017 with 46. He had 9.5 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks. His sack total was tied for the team lead with Tremaine Edmunds, who is now in the NFL. Hill, a junior, had 11 tackles and 3.5 sacks in 2018.
