The ongoing Copa America saw an anticlimactic development this past weekend when Brazil were eliminated from the competition as early as the quarterfinal stage.

The Selecao did indeed bow out to a great team in Uruguay, but their pairing against Federico Valverde’s side only came as a result of their failure to finish top of Group D in the event.

Real Madrid star Eder Militao was one of the Brazil players who missed a penalty in the shootout at Levi’s Stadium.

Vinicius Jr, however, played no part on the night as he was suspended for the all-important clash.

Vinicius’ apology

Taking to his social media earlier today, Vinicius Jr publicly apologised to the Selecao faithful across the globe for the team’s disappointing result in the Copa America and his role in the same.

“Copa America is over and it’s time to reflect, and know how to deal with defeat. The feeling of frustration kicks in again and again on the penalties,” he wrote on his Instagram.

Elaborating on his unavailability for the quarterfinal tie against Uruguay after an accumulation of yellow cards, the Real Madrid forward did not hesitate in taking full responsibility.

“I received two yellow cards and watched elimination from outside again, but this time it’s my fault. I apologize for that.”

“I know how to listen to the criticism and the harshest ones, believe me, come from within,” he added.

The winger’s social media post then went on to address the fact that he was just getting started for Brazil and that at 23 years of age, he had his best years ahead of him.

“My national team journey, fortunately, is just beginning. Next to my teammates, I’ll have the chance to relocate our national team to the place it deserves.”

“We will be back on top! Love you, we are always together,” he concluded.
