Bayern Munich suffered their first in the group/league phase of the Champions League, losing 1-0 at Aston Villa after going an incredible 41 games unbeaten. Despite the defeat, speaking to DAZN, Vincent Kompany admitted his side didn’t have the best day, but would not accept any criticism of his players or tactical setup.

“If I am ultimately objective, then the first quarter of an hour was quite good,” said Kompany. “After that we lost our pace and you got the feeling that things could become dangerous out of nowhere.” And they did, after Jhon Durán lobbed Manuel Neuer, but the Rekordmeister weren’t without chances of their own.

“It’s not like they have three or four dangerous shots on goal,” added Kompany. Bayern Munich had “more control”, recounts Kompany: “I have three or four chances in mind that we didn’t take.

“We had our chances, we didn’t score and now we’ve lost.”

But Kompany did praise his defence: “In the last three or four games we only conceded maybe eight chances. That means the boys are doing well.”

Durán scored the only goal of the game to hand Kompany’s Bayern their first defeat of the season after Manuel Neuer was caught out of possession. Although the obvious error, Joshua Kimmich doesn’t want to blame Neuer for the goal.
