Vinícius highlights Real Madrid teammate as ‘our future captain’

Real Madrid winger Vinícius Jr. has on Monday highlighted a fellow Blancos star as a player whom he feels will one day go on to captain the club.

The player in question? Federico Valverde.

Midfielder Valverde is for his part in the midst of a summer which has seen his ever-increasing importance to the Real Madrid cause recognised once more.

As much comes by way of a new jersey number in Carlo Ancelotti’s squad.

Following the retirement of Blancos icon Toni Kroos, Valverde saw his name specifically pushed as the rightful heir to the German’s ‘8’ shirt.

And, as alluded to above, of the opinion that the Uruguayan international’s prominence is only set to grow yet further over the years to come is teammate Vinícius Jr.

Valverde celebrated his latest birthday on Monday, after turning 26 years old.

Vinícius therefore took to social media, to send a message of well-wishes to his teammate and friend.

And included in the message was a personal backing for Valverde, down the line, to take up the captain’s armband in the Spanish capital:

‘Happy Birthday to our future captain!!! All the best, always, Fede Valverde.’
