Steward and a number of Bears practice squad players, including linebacker Micah Baskerville, defensive tackle Dashaun Mallory, defensive back J.T. Woods, and tight end Tommy Sweeney, had their contracts expire on Monday. Wilson reports Steward was heavily pursued by multiple teams before landing with the Vikings, who saw their season end on Monday night when they lost 27-9 to the Los Angeles Rams in the wild card round.
After signing with the Bears as an undrafted free agent out of Troy, Steward quickly started to stand out at training camp. He earned first-team reps due to injuries and shined in the team's final preseason game with two interceptions, including one for a pick six. Steward appeared in one game for the Bears in the regular season, making one tackle and forcing one fumble.
