Detroit Tigers slugger Victor Martinez will play one final game before he calls it quits on his long MLB career — and he wants that last game to be at Comerica Park.

Martinez will play his last MLB game before retiring on Saturday when the Detroit Tigers host the Kansas City Royals, according to the Detroit Free Press.

“It’s just thanking the Detroit Tigers fans and thanking everybody here,” Martinez said. “After tomorrow, it’s going to be it. That will be my last game. This is one way to thank everybody.”

The 39-year-old is wrapping up a four-year, $68 million deal with Detroit, and told reporters last month that he was likely going to retire at the end of the season. The five-time All-Star will still travel with the team throughout the rest of the season, but simply wants his final at-bats to be in Detroit.

Martinez, who was born in Ciudad Bolivar, Venezuela, got his start with the Cleveland Indians in 2002, where he stayed for eight seasons before he was traded to the Boston Red Sox. Martinez signed with the Tigers in 2011 , and has recorded 1,031 hits in 967 games in Detroit. The designated hitter won the Silver Slugger award twice in his career in 2004 and in 2014.

“We had some good teams. Unfortunately we didn’t accomplish the final goal, which was winning the championship,” Martinez told MLive.com. “I had the best year of my career here in Detroit. I’ll take a lot from this city and keep it with me.

“It is what it is. When I say I’m leaving this game with no regrets, I’m going to leave the game with no regrets. I’m going to go home happy because I know I left everything. I wouldn’t do anything else. I’m going to be at home sitting on that couch, saying that I left everything in this game.”
