‘I’ve run out of things to say’: BBC pundit exasperated with ‘frustrating’ Liverpool player
Liverpool maintained their perfect record in the Champions League this season with a narrow 1-0 win against Girona on Tuesday evening.
The Reds got the better of the Spanish club at Estadi Municipal de Montilivi in the league stage game.
Mohamed Salah scored the only goal of the match in the 63rd minute from the penalty spot.
It was not one of Liverpool’s finest performances this season, especially in attack, and one particular player disappointed Stephen Warnock.
The former Liverpool player was following the match for BBC Radio 5 Live, and he was hugely frustrated with Darwin Nunez.
The pundit made regular remarks about how poor Nunez was and how he struggled to suit manager Arne Slot’s style of play.
Liverpool forward Darwin Nunez frustrates vs Girona
Warnock told BBC Radio 5 Live: “Liverpool are struggling in attacking areas because Darwin Nunez doesn’t want to be involved until the ball enters the penalty area.
“That’s not the way Liverpool want to play football.
“I’ve run out of things to say about him. I do like Darwin Nunez, but when it goes into him the ball just comes back.
“He hasn’t been at his best tonight, and he has struggled with his link-up play. Another frustrating evening for a big Liverpool player.”
Darwin Nunez’s game in numbers
Nunez started the match for Liverpool in the middle of a front-three in a 4-3-3 formation. The Uruguay international striker came off in the 71st minute.
The Liverpool striker had chances to score, especially in the first half, but he could not.
According to WhoScored, the 25-year-old had two shots, both of which were off-target.
Nunez did not play a single key pass and had a 50 percent pass accuracy. He took 16 touches of the ball.
The Liverpool striker has tallied three goals and two assists in all competitions this season.
Nunez bagged 18 goals and 13 assists in 54 appearances for Liverpool last term.
