‘They’ve earned their stripes.’ Meet your 2024 Miami Dolphins captains

Four new names stand out the Miami Dolphins’ recently released captains list.

Jalen Ramsey, Calais Campbell, Zach Sieler and David Long Jr. were named captains, the Dolphins announced Monday morning, joining mainstays Tua Tagovailoa, Alec Ingold, Terron Armstead and Tyreek Hill. The common denominator: “really good players,” according to coach Mike McDaniel.

“You have guys that have not only the respect and regards of their teammates but they have earned their stripes, so to speak, from the league,” McDaniel said, estimating that they have more than two dozen Pro Bowl appearances between them.

The last four — Tagovailoa, Ingold, Armstead and Hill — were captains in 2023 alongside Xavien Howard and Christian Wilkins, both of whom are no longer with the team. Jevon Holland, who was a captain in 2023 and 2022, was the most notable absence from the 2024 list.

With Wilkins now a member of the Las Vegas Raiders, Sieler has had to step up as a leader. The defensive tackle credited Campbell with helping him grow in that regard.

“He’s taught me a lot,” Sieler said. “We sit down and talk a lot about leadership and how to affect the young guys off the field. He knows where he’s at, and he knows where I’m at. He’s like, ‘Look, it’s your time to work.’ I’m trying to make sure I do that and make sure to be more vocal and help the guys make the adjustments and learn on the field, whether it’s here or not here.”
