Vancouver Canucks Recall Lekkerimaki & Young, Reassign Three Players
The Vancouver Canucks have recalled forward Jonathan Lekkerimaki and goaltender Ty Young from the Abbotsford Canucks, the team announced Sunday.
In a corresponding move, forwards Nils Aman and Arshdeep Bains as well as goaltender Arturs Silovs were assigned to the AHL.
Drafted in the first round of the 2022 NHL Draft by the Canucks, Lekkerimaki has seen seven games with Abbotsford this season, collecting five goals and seven points, Having spent the majority of the 2023-24 season with Orebro HK (SHL), Lekkerimaki had 31 points in 46 regular season games.
A 2022 fifth round pick of the Canucks and a product of Coaldale, Alta., Young has made two appearances this season, both with the ECHL's Kalamazoo Wings. In those games, he posted a record of 1-1-0, a 1.01 GAA and a .974 SV%.
With this being his first pro season, Young spent last year playing for the WHL's Prince George Cougars, collecting a 23-11-0 record, a 2.79 GAA and a .903 SV%.
For Aman (two assists in five games with Vancouver), Bains (one goal in seven games) and Silovs (.808 SV% in four appearances), Abbotsford are getting three top of the line players to add to their lineup.
While the Canucks have been quite busy with recalling players and sending others to the AHL, this is both Lekkerimaki and Young's first NHL recalls. Both will both have the potential opportunity to draw into the lineup and make their NHL debuts.
