Utah Jazz's Taylor Hendricks Is Stretchered Off Court After Breaking His Leg in Gruesome Incident
“That’s hard to stomach. He’s put in a lot of hard work, he’s a great kid," Jazz head coach Will Hardy said. "But these are the moments in sports that suck"
Utah Jazz forward Taylor Hendricks suffered a season-ending leg injury during Monday night's game against the Dallas Mavericks.
The crowd at American Airlines Center in Dallas grew quiet after Hendricks collapsed to the floor midway through the third quarter, writhing in pain as his right leg jutted out from his body at a gruesome angle.
The second-year player, 20, was immediately stretchered off the court by paramedics and members of the medical staff for both teams, as players for the Jazz and Mavs stood by in seeming shock about the freak, non-contact injury.
After losing the game 110-102, Jazz personnel confirmed that Hendricks fractured his fibula and dislocated his ankle, ESPN reported.

Jazz head coach Will Hardy told reporters that Hendricks would return to Utah with the team and would seek further testing.
"That's hard to stomach," Hardy said. "He's put in a lot of hard work. He's a great kid, and so we're really just trying to focus on him, his health, keeping him up, his spirits up as he begins the road of his recovery. But these are the moments in sports that suck."

Hendricks' teammates echoed Hardy's sentiments about the player, who was the ninth pick out of the University of Central Florida in the 2023 NBA Draft.
"Super unfortunate," Jazz forward Lauri Markkanen said. "We're all here for him. It sucks that we lost, but he's more important than that. We know how hard he worked the whole summer to be ready for this opportunity, so it sure feels tough for him. We're going to stay here for him and support him."
