Utah HC Suffers Second Pre-Season Loss To Anaheim, 5-2
Goals from Cutter Gauthier and Robby Fabbri 50 seconds apart were enough to help the Anaheim Ducks pull away from the Utah Hockey Club, 5-2, Wednesday night at the Honda Center.
Utah controlled most of the play throughout the night offensively, but were undone by an 0-for-4 performance on the power play and an inability to solve goaltender Lukas Dostal.
Gauthier's goal came just 48 seconds into the third period off a great set-up from Leo Carlsson, before Fabbri scored a tap-in goal off a feed from Tristan Luneau that barely skidded under Utah defenceman Max Szuber's leg.
Dostal, who made 35 saves on the night, stood tall the rest of the way as Utah could not find a way past him or the Ducks' stingy defence.
The frustration boiled over late in the game as forward Logan Cooley was ejected with a 10-minute misconduct after a dust-up with Ducks forward Ross Johnston. Johnston was also tossed with a misconduct.
Another fracas between Utah defenceman Robert Bortuzzo and Carlsson also led to multiple 10-minute misconducts.
Despite the loss, Kailer Yamamoto added his third goal in two pre-season games, while former Anaheim forward Andrew Agozzino tallied the second goal early in the third period to make it 4-2.
The club also had another stout defensive performance with 8 takeaways in the game, along with posting a pre-season high 37 shots on goal.
Utah will not practice tomorrow, opting to take a day off. They will return to practice Friday, where they will break camp in preparation for Saturday's pre-season finale versus Colorado.
