Using Previous Deals To Determine What The Canucks Could Get For Boeser At The 2025 Trade Deadline
There has been a ton of trade rumours surrounding the Vancouver Canucks this season. Both Elias Pettersson and J.T. Miller have almost been dealt to Eastern Conference teams in the last month, while conversations surrounding what GM Patrik Allvin will do with the Canucks pending unrestricted free agents have already started to hit the rumour mill. One player whose name is starting to gain some traction when it comes to rumours is Brock Boeser, who is in the final year of his contract.

While Boeser has made it clear that he wants to stay in Vancouver, the two sides have yet to agree to an extension. The soon-to-be 28-year-old has spent his entire career with the Canucks and currently sits top ten in all-time goals for the franchise. While Boeser has been a key part of this organization since 2015, his time could be coming to a close if both sides aren't able to negotiate a deal ahead of the trade deadline.

If Vancouver does decide to trade Boeser, the question becomes what the team would be able to get back for him. The right-winger is on pace for 29 goals this season and would be a great addition to a contender looking to add extra offence for the playoffs. Below is a list of trade deadline moves from the past few seasons that could be seen as comparables for a Boeser trade.
2024
New Jersey Devils trade Tyler Toffoli to the Winnipeg Jets for a 2024 3rd-round pick and a 2025 2nd-round pick
Washington Capitals trade Anthony Mantha to the Vegas Golden Knights for a 2024 2nd-round pick and a 2026 4th-round pick
2023
Detroit Red Wings trade Tyler Bertuzzi to the Boston Bruins for a 2024 1st-round pick and a 2025 4th-round pick
2022
Seattle Kraken trade Marcus Johansson to the Seattle Kraken for Daniel Sprong, a 2022 4th-round pick and a 2023 6th-round pick
While the situation surrounding every trade is different, the going rate for a player like Boeser seems to be two draft picks. It is also possible that a bidding war for Boeser's services would happen, which would drive up the price. That being said, deals for pending free agents with track records similar to Boeser's aren't often blockbusters, with teams electing to trade away picks instead of prospects.
It is important to note that, at the moment, there are no signs indicating that a Boeser deal will happen before the trade deadline. On the other hand, if the two sides can't get an extension done in the next few weeks, it might be in the organization's best interest to trade Boeser instead of losing him for nothing in the offseason. In the end, it is going to be an uncomfortable few weeks for many Canucks players as the rumour mill will keep churning out stories from now until March 7.
