USA Basketball has canceled a pre-FIBA World Cup trip to Senegal on Aug. 27 because of the Ebola virus outbreak in West Africa, a spokesman for the organization told Yahoo Sports on Friday.

USA Basketball planned to take its first trip to Dakar for an all-day event that included clinics, tours and a reception just days before the World Cup begins in Spain. The decision, made over the past 48 hours, was viewed as tough and disappointing, a source said.

USA begins World Cup play against Finland on Aug. 30.

ESPN.com first broke the story.
