Minutes after the Copa América final was decided, tempers boiled over at Bank of America Stadium.

Following Colombia’s 1-0 semi-final victory over Uruguay, cameras caught an altercation between Uruguay players and Colombian fans in the stands.

The incident occurred when the Uruguayan families were seated, and the players expressed their frustrations regarding the lack of security measures.

One of the players involved was Liverpool’s Darwin Núñez, who was seen throwing punches while security and teammates tried to hold him back. Ronald Araújo was also pictured in the altercations.

“It’s a total disaster. There wasn’t a single police officer,” Uruguay’s José María Giménez said, as reported by The Athletic. “They [security] showed up half an hour later. A disaster. And we were there, standing up for ourselves, for our loved ones.”

“Hopefully organizers take a little more precautions with our families, with the people and those around the stadiums. Because this happens every game.

“Our families are suffering because of some people who have a few drinks and don’t know how to drink, who act like children. Hopefully, they’ll take more precautions for the next game so this doesn’t happen again, because this is a disaster.”

Uruguay will hope Núñez isn’t at risk of missing the third-place match against Canada.
