Uli Hoeness, the honorary president of Bayern Munich, has been quite straightforward with Alphonso Davies regarding his future at the club.

He has made it clear that if Davies does not renew his contract this year, Bayern will let his current deal run its course until it expires in 2025.

“We told him very clearly that if he doesn’t renew his contract, we will let it expire,” said Hoeness as quoted by Fabrizio Romano.

It must be noted that Davies’ current contract with Bayern Munich lasts until 2025, and he has not yet committed to an extension.

Real Madrid have taken note of this uncertainty and have been closely monitoring his situation. Although they are interested in signing Davies, they have not made any progress yet.

They hope to acquire him either this summer or in the summer of 2025 when he could become a free agent.

Three is a crowd

The left-back position at Real Madrid is already crowded. They currently have Ferland Mendy and Fran Garcia in that role. Adding Davies to the mix would only add to the competition for that position.

For what it is worth, Carlo Ancelotti is keen on keeping Mendy. In fact, due to Ancelotti’s preference, Real Madrid plan to start contract renewal talks with Mendy in the coming weeks.

This situation suggests that if Davies were to join Real Madrid, it might push Garcia out of the team.

Bayern are not giving up

On the Bayern Munich side, despite several failed attempts to get Davies to renew his contract, they are considering making a new offer.

This decision is partly influenced by Vincent Kompany’s efforts to persuade Davies to stay at the Allianz Arena and Real Madrid’s reluctance to pay a high fee for him.

Bayern Munich have started to consider meeting Davies’ wage demands, which are around €16 million per year.

However, Davies has so far turned down all of Bayern’s offers. This means Bayern will need to come up with a very attractive proposal to convince him to stay.

The club is under pressure to find a solution, especially with Real Madrid keeping a close eye on the situation, ready to pounce if an opportunity arises.
