UK women’s basketball scores second top-20 commitment this week with 2026 point guard

The recruiting trail continues to reward Kentucky women’s basketball coach Kenny Brooks, who earned his second commitment in a week with a pledge from 2026 point guard Maddyn Greenway on Saturday. She is the Wildcats’ first commitment in the class of 2026.

“After the first day (of my visit) I was like, ‘I want to go here.’ I slept on it and woke up and it was even stronger,” she told On3.com.

Greenway, the No. 18 national prospect in the class of 2026 and the top prospect in the state of Minnesota, is just the third recruit in espnW’s top-60 rankings for 2026 to declare a college destination. She chose the Wildcats over fellow finalists Clemson, Duke, Iowa, Stanford and UCLA, after issuing her top six via social media at the end of October.

An all-around success story out of Providence Academy (Minn.), Greenway recently helped the Lions to their first Minnesota Class A girls soccer state championship. That achievement marks the third separate sport in which Greenway has won a state title — she’s also a three-time Minnesota Class AA girls basketball state champion under head coach Conner Goetz, and she won a state championship in the Minnesota girls Class AA 300-meter hurdles last spring.

Geotz called the daughter of former Minnesota Viking and Iowa Hawkeye Chad Greenway and former Iowa track athlete Jenni Capista Greenway “the ultimate winner,” and complimented the point guard’s dedication to growth and success.

“She’s got a real passion for the game,” Goetz said. “And she’s got a real passion to get better. It’s the little intricacies that she wants to get better at. So she’ll train with former professionals that have played overseas, she’ll look for college coaches that can kind of give her an edge, or little things that she can do to make herself better. She knows she’s not the tallest, but what she lacks in height, she definitely makes up for in heart and pure speed. I think she’s one of the fastest kids, North, South and East, West in the country, regardless of class. I think she’s that dynamic of a kid.”

As a sophomore, the 5-foot-8 point guard eclipsed 3,000 career points along the way to a record of 28-4. She averaged 34.3 points, 8.9 rebounds, 7.5 assists and 4.5 steals per game, and made 76 3-pointers. She’s also a three-year player on AAU program North Tartan’s 17U roster under head coach Gerard Coury, who was complimentary of Brooks and Kentucky after a recent visit to Lexington.

“I’ve always tried to bounce around to go watch colleges practice and get to know coaches,” Coury said. “So when families ask us, ‘What do you know about this program? What do you know about this coach?’ Man, Kentucky hit a home run. He is good. Oh, my goodness. I was so impressed. In fact, I called the Greenways after. I said, ‘This guy is good. He’s real. He’s authentic. There’s no games being played. And he’s just a really, just a good person. He knows the game. He cares about kids. I just walked away very impressed with him.”

Greenway is the third consecutive top-40 pledge for Brooks and the Wildcats — 2025 wing Kaelyn Carroll (No. 15 nationally) out of Tabor Academy (Massachusetts) announced her commitment Wednesday. Current UK freshman guard Lexi Blue was rated the No. 40 prospect in the class of 2024.
