UFC Saskatoon Fighter Bonuses: Frankie Perez Banks an Extra $50,000 in Retirement Fight

The Ultimate Fighting Championship announced the UFC Fight Night 74: Holloway vs. Oliveira performance-based fighter bonuses following Sunday’s event in Saskatoon. Patrick Cote, Josh Burkman, Frankie Perez and Felipe Arantes banked the $50,000 incentives.

Fight of the Night was awarded to the welterweight fight between Cote and Burkman. The two engaged in a back-and-forth battle that saw both fighters hurt at times. They decided to engage and slug it out in the opening moments of the final frame. Cote landed a right hand that dropped Burkman. He quickly finished with a series of punches and hammerfists. It was the first time Burkman has been knocked out in his twelve-year career.

Perez earned a Performance of the Night bonus for his first-round knockout of Sam Stout on the preliminary card. Stout closed the distance and Perez landed a right hand that knocked the Canadian down. He followed Stout to the canvas and forced the referee stoppage with punches.

The 26-year-old Perez announced his retirement following the win. It was his second UFC appearance and his first UFC win. He stated that he fulfilled the dream of having his hand raised inside the octagon and was done putting his family and body through the rigors of the fight game.

Arantes was awarded a Performance of the Night bonus for his first-round submission of Yves Jabouin during their bantamweight bout on the preliminary fight card. Jabouin secured an early takedown and smothered Arantes. Arantes worked to find a submission, initially going for a triangle choke before finishing the fight with an armbar. Jabouin rolled in an effort to escape, but was forced to tap out.

UFC Fight Night: Holloway vs. Oliveira took place at the SaskTel Centre in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, on Sunday.
