UFC Fighter Refuses To Promote Rangers At Madison Square Garden
Last week, big-time UFC fighter Chris Weidman did something shocking as he was set to attend the New York Rangers game against the Winnipeg Jets in promotion for UFC309.
While the UFC wanted Weidman to wear a Rangers jersey at Madison Square Garden last week, he ultimately refused and didn’t go to the game due to his love and fandom of the New York Islanders.

"When I came out here on Tuesday, the UFC was trying to get me to go to the Rangers game, and they wanted me to wear the Rangers jersey and all that stuff and go on the ice or whatever," Weidman said. "Put me on the jumbotron.
"I actually said I can't do it. I'm not going,"
Weidman knew this would have been a great promotion and positive for his overall exposure, but he’s loyal to his Islanders.
"And people think I'm crazy. It's a great promotion. You know, you go on the jumbotron at MSG and all that, and I'm like, I can't put a Rangers jersey on," Weidman said. "And I know they're going to want to put it on me, so I couldn't do it."
The 40-year-old fighter is from Long Island as he’s been an Islanders fan practically his whole life.
He’s even publicized his love for the Islanders on social media through the years, making clear where his loyalty stands.
You gotta respect Weidman’s commitment if he didn’t want to even attend a Rangers game at the world’s most famous arena.
