UFC Fight Night 102 Attendance and Gate Numbers from Albany

It took several years to break down the walls of New York, but after making its promotional debut in the state with a blockbuster event at Madison Square Garden, the UFC returned to The Empire State on Friday, just one month later, for its sophomore effort.

UFC Fight Night 102: Lewis vs. Abdurakhimov was at the opposite end of the star power spectrum from UFC 205, which featured three title fights.

Despite two heavyweight bouts at the top of the bill, UFC Fight Night 102 drew just 6,216 fans to the Times Union Center in the state capital city of Albany. That was good enough for a gate of $411,000, according to UFC officials.

In the night's main event, Derrick Lewis overcame a slow start and frustrating control game by Shamil Abdurakhimov to turn the fight around in deep waters.

While it appeared as though Abdurakhimov might be able to simply outlast Lewis, the Black Beast finally scored a takedown late in the fourth frame. Once the fight hit the mat with Lewis in side control, it was all over. He jackhammered right hands to Abdurakhimov's face before moving to full mount and finishing him with a flurry of alternating punches.

The UFC will make another quick return to New York with UFC 208 taking place on Feb. 11 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
