UFC 202 Results: Cody Garbrandt Destorys Takeya Mizugaki, Calls Out Dominick Cruz

Eighth-ranked bantamweight contender Cody Garbrandt continued his rise up the 135-pound ladder on Saturday by taking out veteran Takeya Mizugaki in 48 seconds at UFC 202 in Las Vegas.

At the sound of the opening bell, Garbrandt marched across the Octagon and landed a hard outside leg kick. Mizugaki responded with a leg kick of his own. The two briefly exchanged before settling in at distance.

Garbrandt landed a right hand flush on the jaw of his Japanese opponent, sending Mizugaki crashing to the canvas. Garbrandt followed up with a series of right hands that left Mizugaki limp and gave referee “Big” John McCarthy no choice but to step in and stop the action. It was the fastest anyone has finished Mizugaki in his eleven-year mixed martial arts career.

“I respect him as a veteran and I knew I had to go out there and put him away early,” said Garbrandt following the quick finish. “I noticed that I hurt him early on. Don’t’ get overzealous. I was a big favorite. He’s still a killer in there. He had nothing to lose, so I knew that I just had to pick my shots and I’d take him out.”

After the win, the undefeated Garbrandt called out bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz, who was watching inside the T-Mobile Arena.

“What’s up Dominick Cruz? Where you at? I just knocked him out faster than you. I’m going to break your jaw. I’m going to show you who your daddy is for real,” he said.

With the win, “No Love” extended his unbeaten streak to ten fights. It was Mizugaki's first appearance in 2016. He's now lost three of his last four outings.
