Yahoo Sports UFC 184 Weigh-in Results: Rousey and Zingano Officially Ready to Make History
UFC 184: Rousey vs. Zingano marks the first time in the promotion's history that women have headlined and co-headlined an Ultimate Fighting Championship event. The fighters stepped on the scale on Friday afternoon in Los Angeles to make it official.
The storylines go well beyond this being the first UFC event so heavily focused on the women.
The main event between UFC women's bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey and Cat Zingano has been nearly two years in the making. Zingano was first offered a crack at Rousey when the two were lined up as opposing head coaches on The Ultimate Fighter 18. Zingano, however, suffered a serious knee injury just before filming was to begin, forcing her off the show and out of the title fight.
Rousey forged full-speed ahead, solidifying her standing as one of the most proficient and prominent fighters in the world. Zingano battled through the injury, lost her husband, and then dealt with further injuries, before making her successful return against Amanda Nunes last September.
Now the two will finally step into the Octagon for their long-awaited showdown.
Zingano didn't mince words when asked her thoughts on Saturday's showdown, saying only, “Watch this!”
The champ had a little bit more to say.
“This is definitely the biggest challenge I've ever had. I'm very thankful to have an opponent like Cat,” said Rousey, before adding, “Because I'm gonna show you guys the most fantastic win you've ever seen from me.”
The co-main event doesn't carry the same luster as Rousey vs. Zingano, but has drawn its share of interest as well. TUF 18 alum Raquel Pennington is set to welcome multiple-time world boxing champion and undefeated MMA fighter Holly Holm to the Octagon in the precursor to the bantamweight title tilt.
