U-18 Worlds: USA, Canada and Czechia Remain Undefeated

Day two of the IIHF women's U-18 World Championships was filled with back and forth action with every game providing a challenge. USA and Canada stayed perfect with regulation wins, while Czechia also earned another win, and Finland got their first victory of the tournament.

Here's a game-by-game look at the action.

USA Yet To Allow A Goal

USA posted their second straight shutout of the tournament, this time keeping Sweden off the board in a 3-0 win. American netminder Morgan Stickney made 21 saves for USA against a fast and physical Swedish roster that kept the game close with the score sitting tied after the first, and 2-0 until a late empty netter. Beyond the midway point of the game Christina Scalese scored her second goal of the tournament to break the deadlock. Only 2:31 into the third, Evelyn Doyle gave USA a two goal lead before Kylie Amelkovich found the empty net with only 22 seconds remaining. Stickney, who is in her first U-18 World Championship was the first American woman ever drafted to the WHL.

Finland Holds Off Japan

After being plastered by the Americans in their opening game, Japan found their footing in their second game out. They opened the scoring against Finland when Umeka Odaira found the back of the net. Less than two minutes later Julia Kuhta tied the game for the Finns, but the lead wouldn't last long. Midway through the game, Nana Akimoto scored for Japan with Odaira assisting. Japan held the lead into the third period but couldn't outlast the Finns in the third. Eva Lamberg, with an assist for Yenna Kolmonen, tied the game. With time winding down and just over three minutes remaining, Kolmonen scored one of her own to give Finland their first lead of the game. With time winding down and Japan's goalie pulled, Vilma Nurmisto slid home an insurance goal for Finland.

Lopusanova opened the scoring, one of her three goals on the night, but Czechia's captain Linda Vocetkova answered with a pair of first period goals. Lopusanova scored twice to open the second to give her team another lead but Czechia remained persistent and managed to score twice, from Magdalena Felcmanova and Barbora Proskova, recording the goals. In the third period, Czechia continued to press with Dana Brezinova and Julie Jebouskova adding to the total resulting in a 6-3 final.

Canada Cruises By Switzerland

After a scoreless first period, Canada picked up steam in the second period scoring four goals, including two from Dorothy Copetti to put themselves ahead of the Swiss. Chloe Primerano, Sara Manness and Hayley McDonald also scored for Canada to give them a 5-1 lead only minutes into the third. Jael Manetsch had Switzerland's lone goal in the game
