Tyrique Stevenson discusses what it's like covering Bears' talented receiver trio

The Chicago Bears have one of the NFL's best receiver trios with DJ Moore, Keenan Allen and rookie Rome Odunze, which should give opposing defenses some fits in the regular season. But it's also helping sharpen Chicago's secondary.

Second-year cornerback Tyrique Stevenson believes that battling the likes of Moore, Allen, Odunze and Tyler Scott has prepared him for whatever he'll face from opposing wideouts during the 2024 season.

"These receivers bring out different problems, so just covering Rome, covering Keenan, covering DJ, covering Tyler just gives you a different aspect of the game of what they bring to the table," Stevenson said this week. "So, pretty much any receiver I see this year, I'll already have seen the best of the best in practice."

Stevenson has been battling Moore for a season-plus now, but it's Chicago's new veteran wideout that has wowed Stevenson so far on the practice field.

"Keenan's a magician," Stevenson said. "Just the fact that he can stop mid-route, change his whole route or just the fact that he gives you something different than what you're expecting. He might break in side, but he's doing that just to see on the next play how he can get you on a route that's coming to him."

While Odunze hasn't stepped on an NFL field yet, Stevenson praised the rookie for his speed and route running ability that should challenge opposing defenses.

"He's sneaky fast," Stevenson said. "Like off the line, you might not realize he's closing the cushion as fast, but once he on you, he on you. Just the fact that he's able to run the wheel routes, he's able to break down and run the digs, or if you let him he'll run right by you. Just the fact that he can pretty much do every route on the route tree."

Stevenson, along with Pro Bowl cornerback Jaylon Johnson, cornerback Kyler Gordon and safeties Jaquan Brisker and Kevin Byard, leads a Bears secondary that could emerge as one of the top units in the league. And battling some of the best receivers in the game should certainly help them achieve that goal.
