Two new teams join the Carolinas Top 25 high school football poll this week.
The top 25 ranks the best high school football teams in North and South Carolina, in one poll, and appears in McClatchy newspapers and websites in both states weekly during the regular season.
Both of the new teams are from South Carolina.
Sumter High is off to a 2-0 start after last week’s 43-40 overtime win over White Knoll. Senior running back John Peoples leads the team with 242 yards and five touchdowns.
Also new this week is Rock Hill’s South Pointe High School. The Stallions bounced back from a season-opening 26-25 loss to Spartanburg by beating in-town rival Rock Hill 49-3 last week.
South Pointe plays at Charlotte’s newest high school, Ballantyne Ridge, Friday.
Elsewhere:
▪ Greensboro Grimsley made a big jump to No. 6 from No. 13 after beating N.C. power Rolesville on the road Friday. Rolesvile fell two spots to No. 8.
▪ In all, 14 N.C. schools are ranked and 11 from South Carolina.
