New Almere City boss Jeroen Rijsdijk has barely got a foot in the door since his arrival earlier this week, yet the club has already brought in two new faces. Yesterday it was announced that Luxembourg international Marvin Martins had joined from Austria Vienna on a contract until the end of the season, while forward Charles-Andreas Brym also arrived from Sparta Rotterdam.

Martins started his career in Luxembourg at Jeunesse d’Esch from which he moved to Portuguese club Casa Pia. Playing for FK Austria Wien in the last three seasons, he racked up a tally of 85 matches while scoring twice. In addition, the right-footed centre-back played 37 international matches for his country.

Technical director Johan Hansma said of the defensive signing: “In the first half of the season we had to deal with injuries in the back line, which made us vulnerable. In Marvin, we have not only found a good and physically strong defender but also a real winner with the necessary experience and leadership qualities.”

Up the other end of the pitch, Almere have also brought in Charles-Andreas Brym. Signing on the same day, the 26-year-old striker made the move from Sparta Rotterdam on a two-and-a-half-year contract until 30 June 2027.

Brym started his career in France with Lille II, before coming to the Netherlands in the summer of 2021 and signing for second-tier FC Eindhoven. In 2022, he moved to Sparta Rotterdam, but was loaned back to FC Eindhoven for another season in 2022-23 where he scored 11 goals in 29 Eerste Divisie games. The attacker is a 13-time Canadian international.

Again, Hansma relayed his thoughts on the club website: “Charles-Andreas is a player we have been following for a while, so we are happy that he is now coming to Almere. He is an all-round attacker with a lot of speed, depth and scoring ability. We expect that he can make an important contribution to achieving our objectives in the coming months.”
