Two-run seventh inning lifts Marlins past Phillies

Nick Gordon homered and Jazz Chisholm Jr. delivered a tie-breaking RBI single in the seventh inning as the Miami Marlins beat the host Philadelphia Phillies 3-2 on Saturday.

Miami trailed 2-1 before scoring two runs with two outs in the seventh inning. Phillies starter Aaron Nola (9-4) was replaced by Matt Strahm after Miami tied the score on back-to-back doubles by Otto Lopez and Nick Fortes.

Chisholm then greeted Strahm with a run-scoring single to put Miami ahead.

Andrew Nardi (1-0) tossed 1 1/3 scoreless innings of relief for the win. Tanner Scott retired the Phillies in order in the ninth for his 12th save.

Playing their second game without injured stars Bryce Harper and Kyle Schwarber, Philadelphia struck out 10 times and went 1 for 5 with runners in scoring position.

Garrett Stubbs homered for Philadelphia, which has dropped two of the first three games of the four-game series. The Phillies are 3 for 25 with runners in scoring position in the series.

Gordon gave the Marlins a 1-0 lead with a two-out homer in the second inning. The 350-foot shot was Gordon’s eighth this season.

Gordon has a seven-game hitting streak with extra-base hits in six of the seven games.

Philadelphia pulled even on Stubbs’ leadoff homer in the third against Miami starter Roddery Munoz. Stubbs deposited Munoz’s 3-2 sinker into the right-field seats for his first home run this season.

Munoz has yielded a total of 15 home runs across his first eight major league starts.

The Phillies moved ahead with a run in the fifth inning. Johan Rojas drew a leadoff walk, stole second base and moved to third on Bryson Stott’s single. After Trea Turner struck out, Rojas scored on Alec Bohm’s sacrifice fly.

Munoz allowed two runs on five hits over 4 2/3 innings. He walked two and struck out four.

Nola struck out nine batters and allowed three runs on six hits with zero walks over 6 2/3 innings.
