Two Royals games in September moving to national TV from Bally Sports KC

The Royals have 37 games remaining this season, and their playoff chances look great.

As of Tuesday morning, FanGraphs shows the Royals have a 79.1% chance of making the playoffs. That includes a 19.1% shot at winning the American League Central and a 60% chance of being a wild-card team.

The Royals are tied with the Twins for second place in the Central, just 2 1/2 games back of the Guardians. The Royals have a 4 1/2-game lead in the wild-card race.

We might as well add this to the equation: the Royals’ magic number for making the playoffs is 34. Let the countdown begin.

Should the Royals make the postseason field, those games will be on national television, of course. But a national audience will see them twice in September, too.

When the Royals’ 2024 television schedule was announced in March, just three games were scheduled to be on national broadcasts/streaming (one on Apple TV+ and two on FS1).

Since then, the Royals’ Aug. 2 game was moved to Apple TV+. And the Royals-Twins game on Sept. 6 at Kauffman Stadium also will be on Apple TV+. The next night’s game, also between the Royals and Twins, will be on Fox’s “Saturday Night Baseball.”

Both of those games will be moving from Bally Sports Kansas City, so a national audience will get a chance to see the Royals as they try to lock down a place in postseason field.
