Africa Foot has today claimed that two Premier League teams are interested in signing Chelsea striker David Fofana.

They say that both West Ham and Everton are keen on the striker, who is still just 21 years old. Both teams are desperate to add more goals to their lineup, and Fofana looks like he could be worth a punt at the sort of relatively low prices which Chelsea are asking.

Loans haven’t really worked out for the Ivory Coast international so far, and while there’s clearly talent there, there’s not exactly a clamour to get him into the Chelsea first team squad, despite our need for a consistent goalscorer to back up Nicolas Jackson. That probably tells you everything you need to know.

A short future remaining at Chelsea

It’s becoming pretty clear that Fofana isn’t in the plans of the Chelsea first team at the moment. If he’s not sold outright to one of these teams, a loan looks likely. Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku are the top options, with Deivid Washington and Marc Guiu providing the reserves. There may yet be another signing up top, too.

Fofana also showed enough in that sparky spell in the second half of last season on loan at Burnley to get sides like those named above interested. He netted 4 goals for the Clarets in the league in his 6 months there.

We only paid Molde £8.6m to sign him in January 2023, so there’s a decent chance we can make a slim profit on the pickup. The report says West Ham’s bid was €15m, and perhaps we can even get them battling with Everton in a way which pushes the price up further.

Either way, his future at Chelsea looks very limited – he has probably played his last minute.
