Two Italy Internationals Vying To Start For Inter Milan In Serie A Clash Vs Roma

Nicolo Barella and Davide Frattesi are vying with one another to start for Inter Milan against Roma in Serie A tomorrow.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

Italian international midfielder Frattesi has had his chance in the Inter starting eleven in the absence of Barella.

The latter missed Inter’s three matches before the international break. This was due to a thigh injury that he had picked up in the derby against AC Milan.

Frattesi started against Udinese in Serie A, and then Torino. Both of these matches ended in 3-2 victories for Inter.

Frattesi was decisive against Udinese in particular.

The 25-year-old scored Inter’s early opener, and then played a big role in the Nerazzurri winning control of the midfield battle.

But now Barella is back.

The 27-year-old former Cagliari midfielder has spent the international break working his way back to fitness.

This week, Barella made his return to full training with the rest of the squad.

There is now little doubt about Barella’s fitness. He has been able to get back to his best relatively gradually and without having to rush back.

Therefore, Barella should be ready to get back into the Inter starting eleven against Roma. Should Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi decide to give him the nod, that is.

It is not a foregone conclusion that Barella will go straight back into the lineup.

Inzaghi could continue to go with Frattesi in Inter’s first match back from the international break.

The Nerazzurri take on Roma tomorrow in their return to Serie A action.

There is little doubt that Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Hakan Calhanoglu will start in midfield in that match.

But for the third slot in the midfield trio, there are two Italian internationals who both have a chance of getting the start.
