FC Barcelona continue their preparations for their first game after the international break as they get set to take on Girona in the Catalan derby on Sunday.

The big news from today’s training session was the return of Gavi. The 20-year-old has recovered from his ACL injury and participated in his first group training session after ten months out.

Ansu Fati, too, continued to train with the group, having left behind his foot injury from pre-season.

Dani Olmo, having survived an injury scare during the international break, trained normally and is 100% fit to face Girona as well.

Guille Fernandez, Alexis Olmedo called up

Meanwhile, as SPORT reports, Hansi Flick also called up two La Masia talents – Guille Fernandez and Alexis Olmedo – to train with the first-team squad this morning.

Guille is a player that Flick rates highly, along with the teenager’s cousin and another La Masia gem Toni Fernandez.

The young attacking midfielder was part of the pre-season tour of the USA and recently made history with Toni as the two became the youngest-ever goalscorers for Barça Atletic, when they found the net in the 3-0 win over Ourense.

Toni had been called up by Flick earlier this week and today it was the turn of Guille.

Meanwhile, Alexis Olmedo was also present in the first-team training sessions today, making up for the absence of Sergi Dominguez, who was injured this past weekend.

Dominguez has been in the first-team dynamics this season but the centre-back suffered discomfort just before Barça Atletic’s game last weekend and did individual work today.

As such, Olmedo, another defender who can play in midfield, was called up by Flick to train today.

Meanwhile, Barcelona are still without Frenkie de Jong, Ronald Araujo, Andreas Christensen, and Fermin Lopez, all of whom are recovering from their injuries. Marc Bernal is out for the season.

Barcelona take on Girona away at Montilivi on Sunday and will debut their away kits for the 2024/25 season on the day.
