Residents of Fort Nelson B-C and the Fort Nelson First Nation will be able to return home tomorrow morning as an evacuation order due to wildfires is being lifted.

However, the mayor of the municipality governing Fort Nelson says evacuation alerts will stay in place for the community, meaning people should be ready to leave again if needed.

Rob Fraser says active wildfires continue to burn in the area where some 47-hundred residents were forced from their homes on May 10th. (12)

New Brunswick Premier Blaine Higgs is banning a Quebec-based sexual education organization from visiting schools in his province.

In a social media post, Higgs says he has heard from concerned parents who shared photos and screenshots of presentation material in high schools from Thirsty for the Talk.

He says the Department of Education told him the presentation was supposed to be about Human Papillomavirus, but the group shared materials beyond that scope. (12)

At least 15 people are dead after severe weather hit Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas.

Officials say seven deaths were reported in Cooke County, Texas, near the Oklahoma border, where a tornado plowed through a rural area near a mobile home park.

Tens of thousands of people were left without power in the aftermath of the storms. (12)

A research lab in Toronto has found a way to tell whether man or machine is behind most audio clips.

Klick Health's research arm uses a method based on five vocal biomarkers that artificial intelligence-generated audio doesn't do.

These biomarkers are features embedded in human voices that tell us things about the speaker's health or physiology, like pauses, taking breaths or grasping for words.

Klick has had an 80 per cent success rate when trying to identify deep fakes including A-I-produced video, audio clips or photos. (12)

(Tonga-Earthquake)

The South Pacific island nation of Tonga has been rocked by a 6.6 magnitude earthquake.

The U-S Geological Survey says the quake hit Monday morning, local time, about 198 kilometres north of Tonga's capital.

So far there's been no reports of damages or a tsunami risk.

Tonga sits on the Pacific "Ring of Fire," which an arc of seismic faults around the Pacific Ocean where much of the world's earthquake and volcanic activity happens. (12)

(US-Obit-Johnny-Wactor)

Former "General Hospital" actor Johnny Wactor has been killed in a shooting in Los Angeles.

His family says the 37-year-old was shot when he interrupted thieves stealing the catalytic converter from his car early Saturday morning.

Three suspects drove away from the scene while Wactor was rushed to hospital where he died.

Wactor portrayed Brando Corbin on the A-B-C soap opera from 2020 to 2022. (12)
