TV and kickoff time options set for South Carolina’s Oct. 19 road trip to face Oklahoma
In two weeks, for the first time ever, South Carolina and Oklahoma will meet on a football field.
It will mark the Sooners’ fourth conference game since they joined the SEC this summer, teaming up with Texas to make the SEC a 16-team league.
And on Oct. 19, the Gamecocks and Sooners will kick off at noon or 12:45 p.m. Eastern with the game airing on ESPN or SEC Network, the league announced Monday. The game is competing with Missouri vs. Auburn for those two time slots, and a final decision is expected late this Saturday or sometime Sunday.
It will be the the second-straight early kickoff for South Carolina, which plays Alabama on Saturday at noon Eastern.
Though OU and South Carolina haven’t played before, there is a connection. Gamecocks head coach Shane Beamer came to Columbia by way of Norman, spending three seasons as the Sooners’ assistant to the head coach and tight ends coach.
“I learned a lot (at Oklahoma),” Beamer said this summer. “Pretty cool being a part of that tradition, and it’ll be a big challenge going back to Norman on that Saturday. Really looking forward to the trip.”
Both programs will be coming off arguably their toughest tests of the season. On Saturday, of course, South Carolina is traveling to face No. 7 Alabama while No. 18 Oklahoma faces No. 1 Texas in the Red River Rivalry.
