Tuttosport: Morata returns in need of goals – his encouraging record against Girona

Alvaro Morata is expected to come back into the starting line-up for the game against Girona tonight, and it is an opponent that he knows well.

As Tuttosport (via MilanNews) reports this morning, Milan will face Girona in the seventh and penultimate round of the Champions League ‘league phase’ hoping to take another step towards the top eight positions.

Despite having only three points so far in the competition, the Catalan team are a real headache, given that we are talking about a team full of talent, that plays well, but that up to this point has not managed to collect what they deserve partly due to some inexperience.

So beware of underestimating Girona, and that is where Morata could be very useful. In the last LaLiga season, the 32-year-old striker scored three times in the first game for Atletico Madrid against them and in the return game he provided an assist.

Expanding that even further, he has faced Girona six times in his career with four wins, one draw and one defeat. He has scored four goals in the process, including the hat-trick that he got in the 4-3 defeat last season.

Given that there has been some criticism towards his lack of regular scoring at Milan it would be a good time to silence things, especially given he has already scored against another team he knows well – Real Madrid – in the current European campaign.
