Tuttosport: Fonseca will ‘look for new ideas to save himself’ during the break
Training gets back underway at Milanello today after a two-day period of rest following the defeat against Fiorentina, and a crucial period awaits Paulo Fonseca.
As Tuttosport (via MilanNews) writes, the training ground is almost deserted considering the many players busy with their respective national teams, but Fonseca will ‘look for new ideas to save himself’.
Even though the club’s leaders reiterated their trust in him already immediately after the match against Fiorentina, the next matches will be very important not only for the Serie A and Champions League standings, but also for the solidity of the Portuguese’s position.
The paper adds that the international break will help Fonseca not only in looking for new tactical solutions, but also to completely change his character and perhaps take a more firm stance with the squad, thanks to the support of the club.
In Florence the incidents relating to the penalty debacle did not go unnoticed, with Theo Hernandez, Fikayo Tomori and Tammy Abraham having shown ‘a lack of respect’ not only towards Christian Pulisic (who should have taken both penalties), but also towards Fonseca after what he had said in the dressing room.
It is now up to Fonseca to show that he has a grip on the situation and that he can unite everyone and get the ship back on track. Otherwise, with more controversial incidents and without an upturn in results, his position may become under threat.
