Tuttosport: ‘Far from the football I want’ – Fonseca not satisfied despite derby win
One of the quotes that stood out from Paulo Fonseca’s press conference on the eve of the game against Lecce was one where he admitted the team are still not playing anywhere near the level he would like.
As Tuttosport (via MilanNews) reports, tonight’s match against Lecce is a fundamental one for the rest of Milan’s season, because Fonseca’s side could either go top for the time being with a win and build on the derby victory, or throw the momentum of that game away and reopen all the previous doubts.
The derby performance was without question the best since the start of the season, yet Fonseca is still not fully satisfied with his team. Tuttosport relay the Portuguese’s words from yesterday in the press conference, in which he was honest about where the team are at.
“We are far from the football I want. Against Inter we didn’t have many moments of organisation, but in transition, we took the ball and went forward. Milan is a team that must play more time in the attacking half,” he said.
“On the Scudetto I continue to say what I said on the first day: at Milan we must think about the Scudetto, we cannot think about anything else.”
In other words, Fonseca expects the 2-1 win over Inter to be not a destination but rather a starting point from which to further improve and become the team he wants in terms of style and levels of performance.
