Turkey & Italy Stars To Undergo Medical Tests After Suffering Injuries In Roma Vs Inter Milan Serie A Clash

Inter Milan midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu and defender Francesco Acerbi will undergo tests today after suffering injuries against Roma.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. They report that the tests should give a clearer picture of when the pair can return.

Inter got an important victory yesterday, beating Roma 1-0 in Serie A.

However, the three points came at a cost for the Nerazzurri.

Two players had to come off with injuries during the first half for Inter.

First, there was Calhanoglu. The Turkish international had to come off the pitch with barely ten minutes played, with Davide Frattesi replacing him.

And then, about fifteen minutes later, defender Acerbi followed him.

Early indications from the Inter medical staff were that both Calhanoglu and Acerbi had suffered thigh problems.

It was reportedly a contracture to the left adductor muscle for Calhanoglu. And then for Acerbi, the problem was also a contracture – in his case to the left thigh flexor.

After the match, Inter coach Simone Inzaghi was cautiously optimistic about the injuries to Calhanoglu and Acerbi.

The coach said that he hoped that Calhanoglu had “caught it in time” with his injury.

The fact that both Calhanoglu and Acerbi both came off so early suggested that they quickly recognized the issue, and did not overdo it.

But that does not mean that the Nerazzurri duo did not potentially pick up injuries that could sideline them for some amount of time.

Tests today should determine the scope of the pair’s injuries. And therefore, how long they might be out.

Inter face Young Boys in the Champions League this week.

And then next Sunday, it’s time for the Derby d’Italia against Juventus in Serie A. That is certainly a match where Inzaghi will want his key players available.

Meanwhile, the Gazzetta also anticipate that it won’t be long at all before Piotr Zielinski can return from a thigh strain of his own. He could even be back against Young Boys.

The injury to Calhanoglu comes amid a bit of a mounting injury crisis for Inter.

Aside from Zielinski, Kristjan Asllani also missed yesterday’s match against Roma with a knock.

And Inzaghi hinted after the match that he would have started Asllani over Calhanoglu had the Albanian been available.
