Trevor Bauer injures pinky while repairing drone, won't start Game 2

Trevor Bauer’s favorite hobby has injured him — and cost him the chance to start Game 2 of the ALCS.

Cleveland.com is reporting that Bauer, starting pitcher for the Cleveland Indians, was repairing one of his drones on Thursday night when he cut his right pinkie finger. The injury required stitches, and so Bauer (who pitches with his right hand) will no longer be starting Game 2 of Cleveland’s ALCS against the Toronto Blue Jays, which takes place on Saturday. Josh Tomlin will start in Bauer’s place, and Bauer will now start Game 3 on Monday.

In case you’re wondering why Bauer was repairing a drone, it’s because in his spare time he builds and flies his own drones. According to the Wall Street Journal, he studied mechanical engineering in college and caught the drone bug in 2013 after watching a video of a drone race that reminded him of a particular scene in Star Wars.

It’s a really cool hobby, and not one that just anyone can do. But Bauer might want to lay off until the playoffs are over.
