Travis Green Announces Ottawa Senator Defenceman Will Miss 2-4 Weeks With A Lower Body Injury
With the return this week of defenseman Artem Zub, things seemed to be looking up for the Ottawa Senators' blue line in terms of health. So, it was probably a little discouraging for the club to see Nick Jensen and Travis Hamonic both absent from Sunday’s practice at Bell Sensplex.
The good news is that Jensen isn’t injured—he’s just not feeling well, perhaps the latest Senator to be taken down by a flu bug circulating around the team. Assistant coach Ben Sexton took up the practice spot of Jensen at practice
Hamonic, on the other hand, appeared to injure his knee while receiving a hit along the end boards in Friday night’s loss in St. Louis. He left the game but quickly returned to finish it out. In hindsight, he probably shouldn’t have. According to TSN 1200 radio, head coach Travis Green said on Sunday that Hamonic would miss 2-4 weeks with a lower-body injury.
Travis Green update on injured players
Perron- Back-skated today, progressing.
Amadio-concussion-skated today, progressing.
Ullmark-back, still week to week.
Hamonic- 2-4 weeks LB injury.
Jensen- sick today.— TSN 1200 Ottawa (@TSN1200) January 5, 2025
Wingers David Perron (shoulder) and Michael Amadio (concussion) both skated today. Green said they are both progressing but didn’t provide a timetable for either player's return.
Goalie Linus Ullmark wasn’t at practice. Green described his status as week-to-week.
As a result of Hamonic’s injury, Jacob Bernard-Docker returned to his familiar position in the 5-6 pairing with Tyler Kleven. The Hamonic-JBD roster swap was a move that a lot of the fan base had been asking for anyway.
It's a good bet that Nikolas Matinpalo will be recalled from Belleville to be the seventh defenseman and an insurance policy behind Jensen if the chicken soup and bed rest fail to do their job in the next 48 hours.
The Sens will be in Detroit on Tuesday, finally ready to put that grueling nine-game road trip behind them. They haven’t played a home game since beating the Pittsburgh Penguins on Dec. 14.
