Ten Hag has faith in United strikers

Wednesday 28 December 2022 10:52 , Giuseppe Muro

Manchester United are in the market to sign a striker following the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo.

But Erik ten Hag has been adamant United will not buy for the sake of it in January and, after Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial scored in their 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest last night, he has expressed faith in the strikers he has at his disposal.

“I never spoke about that I have doubt about that on the counter side,” Ten Hag said. “We have (Alejandro) Garnacho, we have (Anthony) Elanga, we have numbers as well, but those four didn’t play two games together. I think only Everton.

“When we can play those front four often together there will be more routines and when we get more routines in we have more of a goalscoring threat and that is what you see tonight, we score three goals. I am quite happy with them.

“When you are critical – and I am – there is room for improvement because we should score more than three goals with the chances we create but I’m happy with creating all those chances.”

Wednesday 28 December 2022 10:02 , Giuseppe Muro

The Gunners have made Mudryk their top transfer target in January and the 21-year-old is keen on a move to Emirates Stadium.

Shakhtar have said publicly they want closer to £85m but Arsenal hope they will soften their stance over Mudryk, who posted on Instagram showing himself watching Arsenal beat West Ham 3-1 to move seven points clear at the top of the Premier League on Boxing Day.

Mudryk has emerged as one of Europe’s most sought-after young players since becoming a first-team regular with Shakhtar at the start of last season.

He scored three goals during the Champions League group stage this season, in which Shakhtar narrowly missed out on qualification to the round of 16.

Arsenal and Chelsea target Mac Allister

Wednesday 28 December 2022 09:53 , Giuseppe Muro

Mac Allister played a key role in helping Lionel Messi’s Argentina win the World Cup and his reputation soared with his performances in Qatar.

Edul adds that a transfer is likely to have to take place in the summer, with Brighton keen to keep their star asset until the end of the season.

There is obviously no shock United move afoot for Betinho, with The Athletic reporting that the club referred what was described as a “technical issue” to the top-flight, who worked to get it fixed.

Still, that has not stopped the player himself from revelling in his new-found fame via Instagram Stories, screenshotting his unexpected place on the squad list along with the caption: “Thank you Manchester United. See you soon.”

Moyes: West Ham will fight to keep Rice

Monday 26 December 2022 14:48 , Matt Verri

David Moyes has warned that West Ham will not just “roll over” and allow Declan Rice to leave the club amid renewed links to Chelsea.

Rice has rejected numerous new contract offers from West Ham and his current deal is due to expire in the summer of 2024, only heightening speculation that his time at the London Stadium is nearing an end.

Recent reports have suggested that Chelsea are now ahead of Manchester United in the race to sign a long-term target whom they initially released from their own academy as a teenager back in 2014, reuniting him with long-time best friend Mason Mount.

“We’re not just going to roll over and let Dec walk out of the building, that is for sure,” Moyes said.

“It is going to be a big fight. I like it because he wants to challenge himself and he wants to play in the big games and be a top player.”

Klopp sends warning over ‘exceptional’ Bellingham

Monday 26 December 2022 14:09 , Matt Verri

Jurgen Klopp has warned public discussions over the value of Jude Bellingham will do the teenager no favours.

The Borussia Dortmund midfielder was already one of Europe’s most in-demand going into the World Cup, and his stellar displays for England in Qatar have only increased his reputation.

Bellingham looks to have the pick of Europe’s top clubs when he decides to leave Germany, with Liverpool potentially leading the race for the 19-year-old if reports are to be believed.

Asked how much it would likely take for the Reds to land Bellingham, Klopp was full of praise for the teenager but had little interest in discussing a potential transfee fee.

“I don’t like to talk about money when you talk about a player like him,” Klopp said. “Everyone can see he is just exceptional.”

Vieira on Wan-Bissaka rumours

Monday 26 December 2022 12:16 , Matt Verri

Patrick Vieira believes Aaron Wan-Bissaka is “loved” by the Crystal Palace fans as he suggested it will be a busy January for the Eagles.

Wan-Bissaka left Palace in 2019 to join Manchester United, but has not had any sort of impact under Erik ten Hag and has been linked with a return to Selhurst Park.

“Listen, he is a Man United player,” said Vieira of Wan-Bissaka. “We have to respect that and there’s nothing more to say about that.

“He is a good player, there is no doubt about that. He’s related to this football club and I think he’s been loved by the fans. But again, he’s a United player. I hope we’re going to be busy [in January].

“We always work hard to try to improve the squad but we know how tough and difficult it is to find the players to improve the team. We are quite short on numbers but it is important to find the right players.”
