Transfer message? Hansi Flick outlines the midfield profile he needs for his Barcelona XI

Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has provided an insight into the kind of midfielder which he feels will be crucial to his setup in Catalunya’s capital moving forward.

The subject of potential reinforcements to Barcelona’s engine room ranks has of course long proven a headline talking point in the media.

As much comes amid the widespread consensus that, once the signing of Nico Williams is sealed, landing a deep-lying midfielder should be next on the agenda for Deco and co.

RB Leipzig standout Dani Olmo has instead been tipped to quickly follow fellow countryman Williams through the doors at the Camp Nou, a somewhat surprising development.

This comes with the ‘pivot’ position having proven a serious problem area for Barcelona last season.

And, if the latest comments on the part of Hansi Flick are anything to go by, the German appears to be well aware of as much.

Speaking during an interview with Barca One on Monday, the tactician was drawn on his plans for the midfield setup in his squad moving forward.

And Flick, in what could well be taken as something of a transfer request to the board at the Camp Nou, went on to highlight the ‘importance’ of possessing a ‘6’ who is active when out of possession:

“It is important for me that we have a ‘6’ who cares about defense,” Barcelona’s headmaster insisted.
