Transfer LB commits to another SEC school, days after making Gamecocks pledge
Late Wednesday night, Grambling State linebacker Andrew Jones announced he was committing to South Carolina.
Done deal, right?
Apparently not. On Friday evening, less than 48 hours after Jones made his pledge to South Carolina, the 6-foot-2, 220-pound linebacker announced he was flipping his commitment to Ole Miss after taking a visit to Oxford.
Jones, who has one year of eligibility remaining, was superb for Grambling State last season, racking up 122 tackles (20.5 for loss) and three sacks. He was named Southwestern Athletic Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Year and is a finalist for the Buck Buchanan Award — given to the top player at the Football Championship Subdivision level.
With Jones’ flip, South Carolina will likely look to add another linebacker in the transfer portal considering its top three linebackers from 2024 — Debo Williams, Demetrius Knight Jr and Bam Martin-Scott — are all out of eligibility.
