It’s Transfer Deadline Day and there’s plenty of business still to be done before the 11pm deadline for Premier League clubs.

Here are 10 transfers to watch on Deadline Day.

Transfer Deadline Day: The deals to watch

Victor Osimhen

Chelsea are pushing to sign Victor Osimhen with talks ongoing between the Blues and Napoli. The West Londoners have so far seen a deal stall due to the club’s newly-implemented wage structure and face rival interest from the Saudi Pro League.

Al-Ahli have agreed terms on a deal worth £67.2m that will see the Nigerian earn around £25m a season. Crucially, a release clause will be included to facilitate a future exit to Europe. Osimhen is yet to give the green light to Al-Ahli with his preference the Premier League. However, time is running out for Chelsea to conclude the deal. The discussions with Chelsea are over a loan with a mandatory purchase option.

Ivan Toney

Ivan Toney is another forward whose future appears between the Premier League and Saudi Arabia. Thomas Frank has not selected the striker so far this season amid ongoing negotiations around his future, with Toney keen to quit Brentford and into the final season of his contract.

Premier League suitors have not formalised interest with concrete offers, though the 28-year-old remains an option for Chelsea. Al-Ahli are also interested, with Toney appearing the number one Osimhen alternative for both sides.

Manuel Ugarte

Manchester United are nearing the announcement of Manuel Ugarte, who has been undergoing medical tests with the club this week ahead of a €60m move from Paris Saint-Germain.

The Uruguayan will strengthen Erik ten Hag’s engine room having earned a reputation as one of the most prolific ball-winners in Europe over the last two seasons. He will need to be registered by 12pm today to be eligible to face Liverpool this weekend.

Jadon Sancho

Jadon Sancho’s time at Manchester United appears to be drawing towards a close. Despite patching things up with Erik ten Hag in pre-season, Sancho has failed to convince that he can be a part of the club’s long-term plans. Juventus and Chelsea are interested in signing the 24-year-old, who could be allowed to leave on loan if the deal includes a purchase clause. An exit would end an unhappy time at Old Trafford for the former £72.9m signing.

Carlos Soler

West Ham have had one of the most eye-catching transfer windows in English football but the Irons are not done yet. Julen Lopetegui has not given up hope of signing Carlos Soler before the deadline, with the Hammers pursuing the Paris Saint-Germain midfielder.

The Spain international can leave PSG for around £20m after struggling for regular first-team football at the Parc des Princes.

Marc Guehi

Newcastle are understood to be close to walking away from their pursuit of Marc Guehi, having found Crystal Palace tough negotiators. A club-record bid in the region of £65m was turned down for the England international and the Magpies are reluctant to raise that offer.

However, with a need for reinforcements amid the absences of Jamaal Lascelles and Sven Botman to ACL injuries, could Newcastle be pressured into a last-gasp higher bid?

Raheem Sterling

Raheem Sterling has been told he has no future at Chelsea and the winger is assessing his options before the deadline. The 29-year-old has underwhelmed since signing for Chelsea from Manchester City, though still has plenty to offer.

Manchester United have explored signing the winger as part of a swap deal involving Jadon Sancho, while Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has also spoken highly of Sterling having worked with him earlier in his coaching career. The Saudi Pro League offers an alternative option should no move materialise before 11pm.

Ben Chilwell

Ben Chilwell is also part of the Chelsea cast-offs, joining Sterling in being informed that he will not receive minutes in West London this season. Manchester United have distanced themselves from a move for the left-back, with public transfer interest having been minimal to date. Chilwell’s injury record is a concern, though the defender remains just 27 and has earned 21 caps for England. A loan move could appeal to a host of Premier League teams.

Ernest Nuamah

Ernest Nuamah is at the centre of a transfer tug-of-war between Everton and Nottingham Forest, as the two sides compete to sign the Lyon winger. The French side are prepared to offload the Ghana international for around £25m, despite only making his move from
RWD Molenbeek permanent this summer. The 20-year-old ranked among Ligue 1’s leading players for progressive carries and carries into the penalty area in 2023/24.

James Ward-Prowse

Nottingham Forest are pushing to sign James Ward-Prowse, who has been squeezed out of the picture at West Ham. After a strong start to his career at the London Stadium, the midfielder has fallen out of favour.

He has featured for just 16 minutes in the Premier League so far this season and Forest are prepared to offer the 29-year-old a route to first-team football. His set-piece expertise could be a real weapon for Forest, who have added the 6ft 5in Nikola Milenkovic to their aerial targets this summer.

Carlos Borges

Carlos Borges is on Wolves’ radar to replace Pedro Neto, as Gary O’Neil looks to reinvest some of the £54m windfall for the Portugal international. The 20-year-old joined Ajax from the Manchester City academy last summer, having starred as part of the Citizens’ development squad. Wolves are hopeful of luring him back to English football.
